Where do I start? I have a LOT of new to me authors that I read AND loved in 2014! And to be honest, I haven’t read (or at least kept track of) as many books as I have this year!
Anyway, here are my top 10.
Historical Romance
Let me just tell you that I have not really read new-to-me historical romance authors lately. My historical romance TBR pile is overflowing already and I always seem to pick up my tried and true favorite authors.
Maya Rodale
I read The Wicked Wallflower this year and I loved it! I love the freshness that she adds to the spinster and rake trope! I will definitely be reading more of her books!
Jennifer Haymore
It took me a while to start reading her books but I have read one book and I am loving her! I will be checking out her backlist. Like. NOW.
Young Adult
Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
These Broken Stars really blew me away! This is one of the best books that I have read this year and I am glad I picked this up because this was also the first YA book that I read THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVED (yes, I did not like the Twilight Saga, read all of them, by the way)!
Megan Shepherd
The Madman’s Daughter and Her Dark Curiosity have made multiple top 10 lists this year. I absolutely love her storytelling, the seamless way she connects and combines two different classic books!
Suzanne Collins
Okay. So she has been around for quite a while but this year marks the first time that I read The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mocking Jay. And let me just tell you that I was speechless. I love these books so much! The end was so unique and unexpected that I can’t stop gushing about it. I can’t believe it took me a this long to read her books!
Kristin Cashore
Graceling. What can I say? I absolutely LOVED it! Very unique and the girl power was just – WOW! I also love that it is a standalone book. Not many YA books are like that. Now that I mention it, These Broken Stars is also a standalone book!
Jodi Lynn Anderson
Her book Tiger Lily was something! I love her retelling of the Peter Pan story!
Cynthia Hand
I really love her Unearthly series! I love the twist with the sort-of love triangle and so far, I love how she wrote the choices Clara made. I will be reading the last book in the series so….
Danielle Paige
She really blew me away with her debut Dorothy Must Die and the little novella No Place Like Oz. I love how she combines the movie AND the book to make one awesome series!
John Green
Who doesn’t love The Fault in Our Stars? TFiOS anyone? I actually enjoyed reading (well, listening) to it despite not bawling.
Let’s Discuss
Have you read any of the above authors? Do you disagree with my picks? Let me know in the comments below.
I read The Wicked Wallflower & loved that, too! And I also read Jennifer Haymore's The Duchess Hunt & that was good. I had a hard time getting into The Rogue's Proposal, but I will probably go back to it at some point.
I really loved Cynthia Hand's Unearthly trilogy. I'm really looking forward to the contemporary book she's releasing in 2015! It looks like you've discovered some great authors this year!
