I’m starting Tope Ten Tuesday again and I thought this was an awesome topic since I have been reading a bunch of books that I really, REALLY want to see on the BIG and SMALL screens. I will not mention possible actors, though because my imagination CAN’T pick anyone in Hollywood to play my favorite characters. Oh, and I am also ONLY picking books that I have personally read.
For the Small Screen
The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost is ONE AWESOME SERIES! I just can’t get enough of it and I would definitely LOVE it to be a TV series. It’s a paranormal romance with vamps (and other things) and I think it would be perfect as a TV show. There are also 7 books in the series which I think would be overkill to make into movies for the big screen but I think they could do a lot with the plot. Well, granting that there are already vampire TV shows but I think this one will stand out.
The Infernal Devices trilogy by Casandra Clare would be an awesome TV series. It is also a paranormal romance that I think would do well as a series on the CW since it is a YA book. I also think that they can do a lot more as a series as opposed to it being on the big screen. Plus, I may be biased a little because of the disaster that was The Mortal Instruments. So for now, let’s stick to Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices as a TV series.
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare was an awful movie. But since it has been picked up as a TV series and it looks like they already have the actors picked out, I am excited to see how they will reboot this franchise. I had such high hopes for the movie version but it was just sooooo horrible and I couldn’t imagine how NO ONE in Hollywood ever saw that train wreck and SAID SOMETHING!
The Finishing School series by Gail Carriger is a current on hold book for me since I did not finish it yet BUT I still have plans to (when the mood strikes). This is a very interesting series that I think would make an awesome TV show. It is steampunk with a lot of weird things going on. I am still at 30% of the audiobook so I don’t entirely know the whole story BUT it sounds interesting!
For the Big Screen
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer has all the makings of an awesome movie, I think. Well, it is definitely something that I would want to watch! The 4 book series is a fairy tale retelling of different tales in each book (Cinder – Cinderella, Scarlet – Little Red Riding Hood, Cress – Rapunzel, Winter – Snow White) with different main characters/focus characters per book. The awesome thing about this series is that all the characters intersect or are prominent characters in each book. This is also a dystopia/sci-fi/space/robots thing that I think will not disappoint!
The Madman’s Daughter trilogy by Megan Shepherd would be an awesome movie! Since it is a trilogy, it would not drag on for far too long. But what makes this trilogy so unique is that it is a classic retelling of 3 different books PER book. The Madman’s Daughter is a retelling of The Island of Dr. Moreau, Her Dark Curiosity is a retelling of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the third book A Cold Legacy is a retelling of Frankenstein. It is also set in the late 1800s which make the story more intriguing! Think along the lines of Jack the Ripper or a dark and seedy London!
Starbound series by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner is another series that have different main characters in each book. This is also a trilogy I believe and the last book is not out yet but I have read the first two books, These Broken Stars, and This Shattered World and I am convinced that they would make awesome films for the big screen.
Legend trilogy by Marie Lu is already slated to be made into a movie so I thought I should add this in. I would definitely love to watch this in theaters because of the badass/kickass heroine (for a change). Oh and what do you know? This book has already been picked up for a movie!
The BFG by Roald Dahl is being made into a MOVIE! OMG! Has anyone seen the animated version? I loved the animated version growing up so I am super psyched to see this as a live action movie! This is coming next year and I can’t wait to see it!
Firelight by Sophie Jordan is also picked up for a movie and as much as I liked the first book (Firelight), I did not like the second book at all. But I think this would be interesting. We need more badass female dragons on the big screen, don’t we?

ooooh, I would love to see These Broken Stars as a movie! And of course The Lunar Chronicles. That would be so good.
I have been wondering why The Lunar Chronicles hasn't been picked up yet for a movie deal!
Whoa, I did NOT know that all those movies are coming out!! Red Rising!? An Ember in the Ashes?! That is so exciting! Totally agree that TMI will be better as a show than a (dreadful, from what I hear) movie. And Legend would make such a fun movie, perhaps even better than the book! Great list!

I saw the list on IMDB for Books to movies in 2016 🙂
