Top Ten Tuesday: Book to Movie Adaptations
There is just too little time to read all of these wonderful book adaptations, right? I have been looking at lists of books either coming soon, in production, or option for movies and I am astounded at the growing list! This post will be divided into books that I have read, haven’t read and future TV series. Let’s face it, there is just A LOT. Oh, and I am counting those that I DNF’d but would like to see on the big or small screens! Hopefully these movies will be made soon (some of them are already in the production process and some are coming really soon), though.
I HAVE READ
- Mockingjay Part 2 by Suzanne Collins – This is probably the most anticipated book to movie adaptation of the year for me. After that cliffhanger ending for Part 1, I just can’t wait to find out how they will finish off this series.
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling – So, I did not really like the book but I loved the margin notes and side comments the Harry Potter characters did. That said I am excited to see this version come to life on the big screen! This is supposedly following Newt Scamander in his travels as he chronicle all the fantastic beasts and where to find them (LOL). I am expecting grand travel scenes with lots of CGI (and even real-ish) creatures!
- Fallen by Lauren Kate – Although I did not like this book at all, I actually finished reading. This was one of the books I read after I saw Twilight (shudder) and I was not impressed. However, I would like to see how this movie would compare to the book.
- Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – I am currently listening to the audiobook version of this novel and I am loving it! I see it as more of a new adult movie because of the themes but definitely something that I want to see!
- The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa – Read the first book and was intrigued by the vampire virus! Think I Am Legend but with a lot more people than the first part of that movie. Given that this cover is whitewashed, I hope that they pick more appropriate actors for the movie version!
- Legend by Marie Lu – I loved this series and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen! Hopefully they won’t whitewash the characters for this movie as well.
- Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Another fantasy series that I would love to see in theaters! Although I didn’t finish reading the series, I was able to finish the first book and I think this would be a perfect addition to those epic fantasy YA movies (are there any?)
- Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – Say what you will about Cassie but this series is my favorite! It has YA and historical themes in it that I love! I see this as a gothic/fantasy/dark movie and I hope that this won’t go down the same road The Mortal Instruments movie went because that was just uber disappointing.
- Firelight by Sophie Jordan – I love this book (enough with the gushing already!) but did not like the second book and didn’t finish reading the series (bad me) but I love the concept! A female dragon shape shifter and a human boy from a line of dragon hunters? This is like Romeo and Juliet to the umpteenth level!
- The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shephard – This book is just awesome, period. A retelling of the book The Island of Dr. Moreau in YA featuring Dr. Moreau’s daughter and weird animal-human creature hybrids and a creepy gothic flare? Sign me up for this!
I HAVE NOT READ
- Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – When they said that this movie will be directed (is this in production already?) by Tim Burton, I can’t help but say heck YEAH! Burton is one of my favorite directors and just think about this: creepy book + amazing director who loves the creepy genre = I am expecting an amazing creepy movie!
- Allegiant by Veronica Roth – Didn’t finish reading the series because Tris but whatever. I already saw the first 2 films (read Divergent and DNF’d Insurgent) so what the heck, right? Plus, I like Kate Winslet.
- Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith – Because zombies! And Pride and Prejudice! Because it’s zombies and Pride and Prejudice!
- The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy – I saw the trailer and was entranced! I love alien (except that creepy movie Alien) dystopia flicks so… And the trailer looked good. Plus Chloe Grace Moretz!
- The BFG by Roald Dahl – Yaaaaazzzzz! I saw the animated version of this when I was kid and like Sophie, I loved the BFG! Plus, STEVEN SPIELBERG!
- Red Rising by Pierce Brown – 700 years post planet colonization sounds so interesting! Plus, it’s set in Mars.
- Inferno by Dan Brown – My husband read this book and he said it was good. Couldn’t get much out of him anyway but who cares? This is the fourth book in the Robert Langdon series (I was disappointed when I read The Lost Symbol) but I loved the book Angels and Demons and thought The Da Vinci Code was ok and the movies weren’t that bad. I also like Tom Hanks but my husband swears that he does NOT look like a Robert Langdon to him so…
TV SERIES
- These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner – This book started my love for YA sci-fi dystopian books! Plus Lilac and Tarver!
- The Shadowhunters by Cassandra Clare – This series will try to save the travesty tragedy that was The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie and from what I saw in the trailer, it looked better than the movie. I will try to see how this will pan out but I am interested to see how they will change things. The characters are also a few years older than the YA novel version, too.
- Uglies by Scott Westerfeld – Another book that I recently listened to (The Pretties is next on my audio TBR) that has a possibility of becoming a great series. Hopefully this won’t be Mean Girls-ish.
- Unearthly by Cynthia Hand – Angels and fallen Angels! Yay! Plus Tucker Avery! (swooooooon) I hope this won’t be like The Vampire Diaries, though.
What book to movie adaptations are you waiting for?
BFG was one of my favorites when I was a kid! I’m pretty excited that it’s going to be made into a movie. Didn’t even know until today! And I REALLY want to read Miss Pereguine’s Home for Peculiar Children. REALLY.
I know! I am so excited about this! 🙂
I’m so excited for Red Rising and Legend, I didn’t know they were being made into movies. Awesome Post
