Last year, I featured 20 favorite book covers and divided them by genre. This year, I decided to feature just 10 books total. I am still dividing them by YA and Historical Romance, though.
For Young Adult covers, the first thing that catches my eye is the minimalistic but bold covers. What attracts me to these covers is either a splash of color or a striking image.
The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee – The cover for The Thousandth Floor is just so striking! Showing the top of a gold skyscraper with a black background is just too striking to miss.
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo – This cover, though! A crow silhouette with tower silhouettes formed by the crow’s feathers. How ingenious is that?
The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig – Everything in this cover is just so unique! I love how a splash of water is seen here with the heroine’s reflection (her eyes), with the boat at the end of the splash.
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer – How could I not include The Lunar Chronicles in this list? I just love how their covers look and how distinct they are. Stars Above is no exception! I love how the glowing crown looks on top of the red pillow.
A Million Worlds with You by Claudia Gray – The main reason I picked up Ten Thousand Skies Above You was because of the cover. I LOVE the pastel colors used here and the different distinct worlds the cover depicts alluding to the time travel theme of the book.
For Historical Romance covers, I ALWAYS look at how gorgeous the gowns are. I mean, this is one of the reasons I absolutely LOVE this genre.
Lady Bridget’s Diary by Maya Rodale – This cover is just gorgeous! Showing Lady Bridget in a white gown holding a blue diary, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Also, isn’t Lady Bridget pretty?
Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas – The white gown theme continues in Marrying Winterborne! But this time, I like how the white gown stands out in the light purple/pink background.
The Hunter by Kerrigan Byrne – The almost kiss is one of my favorite poses in book covers. So The Hunter is not an exception. I love when covers show the couple.
Baron by Joanna Shupe – Another cover that I absolutely love. Not only are both the characters’ faces shown, the heroine’s gown is just adorable!
Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn – Lady Bridgerton’s facial expression takes it all. I love how mysterious she looks. Plus her hand crossing her fingers is just cheeky! I love the green gown, too.
What book covers blew you away this year?
Ohhhh, The Thousandth Floor! I’ve not read that book (though I have it on my TBR). I love that cover! Mostly because of the typography, but the typography + the building looks REALLY good. My favorite adult romance cover… I didn’t put together an adult list, but Highland Spitfire would be on there, and A Promise of Fire. So pretty! Great list, Zeee. =)

This series really has gorgeous covers!
So many pretty covers. I do love that little sparkle on Stars Above on the crown. It gives it that little something extra.

I love the YA covers that you chose. And though I’m not a fan of historical romance in general (I actually haven’t tried much of it), those gowns certainly make for very pretty covers.
