MY THOUGHTS
Warning: This review may contain spoilers
It has been a couple of weeks since I saw the movie version of City of Bones and despite what others have said, I found it very underwhelming. True, I never expected the whole movie to follow the book scene by scene but come on! It was definitely NOT the City of Bones that I read prior to the movie. To quote the hubby, “We should not have read the book in the first place.” Yes. Both of us read it. Mind you, hubby does not read a lot of YA but I convinced him to read it before the movie.
Let’s start with the characters. Lily Collins plays Clary perfectly and I think she was the right actress for the job. Believable and pretty much what I thought Clary should look like. I also thought that Robert Sheehan played Simon really well. Although I was a bit disappointed about the change in the whole plot where his character was concerned. I also thought Jonathan Rhys Meyers played Valentine to a T. The only beef that I have with the casting is Jamie Campbell Bower who plays Jace. I just can’t picture him as the sarcastic and sardonic Jace! I really just can’t. No offence to his looks or anything but his acting just came off dry and uninspiring.
Next is the plot. I get that book to movie adaptations don’t follow the book as much as we like it to be so but this was just ridiculous! Everything was just off! From the start to the end, it felt so….flat. This time, hubby and I agreed with the whole movie. It just lacked the excitement that came when I read the book. And I just can’t believe that they changed the story and did not make Simon kill the demon! Please! I thought that was an important plotline that should not have been taken out!
I understand creative freedom but please Hollywood! Make great movies and not OK movies.
Loooove your blog! Don't give up on the movies yet. Remember Twilight and the first movie that almost made me kill myself. I ended up loving the rest, though.
I'm gonna follow you on Feedly 🙂
Eh.. I really didn't like Twilight, either… both books and movies… I did read the books and saw the movies and if they didn't add the twist in Breaking Dawn Part 2, it would have been a blah movie
I was actually wondering how they were going to do Breaking Dawn Part 2 interesting! When I saw the movie I was all "omg, omg, omg!"
