The Art of Sinning starts the Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries and it features the rake/American painter Jeremy Keane, the almost husband of Lady Zoe in How the Scoundrel Seduces (The Duke’s Men #3). Jeremy Keane spots Lady Yvette Barlow and thinks that she is HIS muse. He finally convinces Yvette’s brother to paint her portrait (as a cover for the true reason he wants to paint her) and sparks begin to fly.
Jeremy appears to be the dissolute rake, always seen in the brothers of London and in the company of questionable “ladies” but in truth, he hides a LOT of baggage. Lady Yvette is the pampered sister of an earl (now I forgot his title BUT he was Jane Vernon’s fiancee in If the Viscount Falls, The Duke’s Men #4) who is on a mission to visit the brothels of London to find someone. She agrees to be the model for Jeremy’s OTHER painting IF he would accompany her to the brothels. After all the scandalous posing in barely there clothing and explosive banter, Jeremy and Yvette fall in love (like you do).
I really like the relationship between Yvette and Jeremy. I also like that they started off with talking (in between posing for the scandalous painting) and getting to know each other first before all the falling in love happened.
However, in the book The Art of Sinning, there wasn’t A LOT of sinning going on, ironic huh? Mostly, there was just this whole mystery about Jeremy’s past. It is something very devastating, though but still – there was just no sinning! Only one ALMOST sexy time in a brothel! So… that was a little disappointing.
Yvette is also a likable character. I was able to relate to her and I liked that despite the hurt she was hiding,
she was still a virgin!
I thought this was refreshing because in historical romance when the heroine is averse to marriage, there is always some trauma/rapey thing that happened to them in the past.
What really intrigued me though is Yvette’s brother, the Earl and their childhood friend (Ok, so it’s 11 PM right now and I just can’t think of their names and I am too lazy to look so, whatever). There were already HINTS that these two MIGHT be together and I can’t wait to find out if they are going to be the pair!
The Art of Sinning was an awesome read, plus I also get to meet a few of the characters from The Duke’s Men and I can’t wait for the next book!
