Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Happy Tuesday, Wormies! Today, I want to talk about 10 things I want to see more of in the Young Adult and Romance genre.
As you know, I read YA and adult romance, and the last couple of years have been really interesting. I have seen a rise in certain plots, genres, and tropes but I want to see more of them! Here is my list, and I hope the bookish gods are reading this post right now.
Young Adult
More Androids, Please!
It seems like science fiction has regained popularity again! And I want more! Picture Humans or Westworld and I should be set! I absolutely LOVE higher functioning androids since I met Iko from The Lunar Chronicles! I have actually read a few other books with main characters who are androids and it has left me wanting!
Cinder | Mila 2.0 | Defy the Stars
EPIC Space Battles
A little bit related to the previous item, I have grown fond of epic space battles. I mean, think of Star Wars and Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy! Wouldn’t that be an amazing YA science fiction book? HECK, YEAH! In the last couple of years, I have seen a rise of the genre in the last few years as well but I feel that it is NOT ENOUGH! This is also the genre that made me read YA again!
These Broken Stars | Illuminae | Starflight
Steampunk!
I have read only a couple of books in this genre and I am intrigued. If it is sprinkled with Paranormal, then I am not one to complain! Do you have any book recs in this genre?
Clockwork Angel | The Girl in the Steel Corset | Leviathan
Adult Romance
Fantasy + Romance + AMAZING!
One genre that I just discovered is the fantasy romance sub-genre. I mean, how could this go under my radar?! I simply do not know the answer to that, but you know what, I want MORE! This is high fantasy, mind you, because I still haven’t gotten into that genre yet. What I want is more romance in my fantasy!
The Winter King | A Promise of Fire | Lord of the Fading Lands
Gilded Age Era
Now you know that I absolutely love historical romance. Most of them are set in the Regency period and even if I love that period, I am intrigued by the Gilded Age. This does not mean Westerns because there are a lot of them already. Gone with the Wind, anyone? I have only read a handful of books set in that era and it has left me wanting for more!
Lions and Lace | Baron | Love, Come to Me
Oliver Twist Retelling
I read a certain series years ago that was inspired by Oliver Twist! I was entranced. The Scoundrels of St. James series by Lorraine Heath is exactly that! Now, I know there have been spinoffs of this series featuring the children and it is still awesome BUT not an Oliver Twist retelling.
In Bed with the Devil | Between the Devil and Desire | Surrender to the Devil | Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel
What things do you want to see more of?
Have you read any books from my list?

I never really understood what steampunk was, but I loved the Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments series!
Space battles, steampunk, and androids – sound good to me! 🙂

Yes to all of them! I definitely need more androids in my life. Cinder was an absolute favorite of mine! And an Oliver Twist retelling sounds magical! Fantastic list!
