Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Happy Tuesday, Wormies! Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday post where I share a list of the series I don’t plan on finishing at all! Why? Well, there are multiple reasons and one of those reasons is frustration with where the series is going.
There are going to be some popular series in this list so please don’t attack me if I list your absolutely favorite series here. I’m still entitled to my own opinion and badgering me to finish a series will actually get me to NOT finish a series.
Also, I tend to shy away from really loooooong series so to those series that have 50+ books already, chances are I am not going to even start reading them!
Some of the series books can be read as standalones so those are actually easier to finish. The ones that are quite hard to finish are the series books that involve one story and can’t be read as a standalone.
Series I Don’t Plan on Finishing
Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
I actually LOVED this series. In fact, I blew through the first 4 books in record time and I was quite shocked that there was a 5th book, then a 6th, then a 7th book?! WTF! I felt like the whole plot ended in book 4! Ugh! I honestly couldn’t even finish Chaol’s book Tower of Dawn. AND I LOVE CHAOL! I feel like SJM is just milking this series. Sigh.
A Court of Thornes and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
Sigh, another SJM series. I gave up on this series in book 2 because of Rhysand and just arghhh I hate Tamlin but if Fayre was going to end up with Rhysand what was the freaking purpose of the first book anyway? I mean HUH?! Anyway, there were problems in the first book that I could not ignore and I actually DNF’d the second book.
Rush Duet by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
So, I was really excited to read this book BUT with the reveal at the end of the first book I was like, seriously?! I think that drama is just too much for me. Seriously. It sucks because I liked the first book.
Wait for You Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I LOVE Wait for You and Be with Me but I just lost interest when I started reading Stay with Me and I also skipped to Fire in You and I didn’t like the plot anymore? I don’t know why I don’t like the series anymore. Maybe because it suddenly becomes an adult romance instead of NA?
Wicked Trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I finished Wicked but then I couldn’t really get into Torn. Again, I don’t know why but maybe because it’s the fae and fantasy and maybe I am over that genre?
The 1797 Club by Jess Michaels
Jess Michaels used to be one of my fave historical erotic romance authors until this series. I read the first 3 books in the series and they were pretty meh and not even very erotic? I don’t know what it is but maybe I miss her older writing style? There is going to be 10 books in this series, by the way.
Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
A lot of readers from my book club recommend the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. I actually read A Hunger Like No Other and realized around the 80% mark that I had read this book years ago! It wasn’t one of my faves and I didn’t like the writing style and the heroine. That said, the first book was written in 2006 so maybe Kresley Cole’s writing style has changed? There are 19 books in this series and I’m not sure I want to read all that!
Have you read any of the series mentioned on my list?
Which series should I give a second chance to?
Have you ever read books in a series that you have lost interest to?
This is interesting, reading your picks I couldn’t help but think of all the ones I won’t finish. I also cannot read anymore books with the fae in it, it’s like how vampires used to be. Just stop using them, there has to be another fantasy species out there.
Yeah, that is true! I find that for paranormal and fantasy, there seems to be a trend. I remember when vampires were EVERYWHERE. I’m actually not a fan of vampires as much – except for the vampire books written by Jeaniene Frost… 🙂
I have seen Kresley Cole a few times as well as A Court of Thorns and Roses, there was all kinds of hype over these series!! That’s a shame. I hope you do find ones you like.
Yup. I find that I don’t like to read hyped books/series.
I thought the Wait for You series got worse with each book. I did stick with it (because I loved the first few!!) but each additional book was just meh. Great list!
Samantha recently posted…Series I probably won’t finish…#TopTenTuesday
I know, Samantha! Gaaahhh I think one of the reasons is when the books moved out of college… I thought this was a new adult series but it sorta turned into contemporary adult.
I love SJM and both her series. I think I like ToG more, but I get that not everyone loves her.
Yeah, I know a lot of readers who LOVE ACOTAR. I’m just over it and I don’t like the themes. sigh*
I started blogging around the time the first SJM series came out and she was the talk of the bookish internet but I was seriously doubting people would say on for 7 books. I’m sure you’re not the only one giving up on that one.
Yeah. I think it’s just that she is stretching the series to add more books. I have read series that are pretty long – one of them is The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost (7 books), plus the other spin-off series in this world. But I mostly don’t stick to the very end of the series.
It’s a problem when they go on too long. TV shows have this problem as well. Usually they can make it to about season 6 or so before the writers are clearly out of ideas and are just beating a dead horse. LET IT END WHILE IT’S STILL GOOD, GUYS. (I’m looking at you, Supernatural Season 13 or 14 or whatever # you’re on…)
I totally agree! I think the only series that I seriously finished is Fringe – but they only had like 5 or 6 seasons. But I love Criminal Minds and watch it on and off throughout the years… I just seriously stopped watching when Morgan left 🙁
