My Thoughts
“A page-turning tale of mystery and espionage”
Sapphires are an Earl’s Best Friend is the third book in Shana Galen’s Jewels of the Ton series and focuses on Lily Dawson’s HEA.
I enjoyed reading about Lily’s backstory. The story starts off with Lily (as a child) who was obviously intrigued by her father’s work. Her father is also a spy. Despite growing up in a loving family, she makes a mistake and is thrown out of the family home and is rescued by Lord Sinclair and his wife. I was very curious about Lily’s backstory since I read If You Give a Rake a Ruby (Jewels of the Ton #2) and was wondering what her baggage was. I was not disappointed. Her history made me understand why she acts the way she does.
The interactions between Andrew and Lily are explosive. I love their witty banter and the attraction that simmers through the pages. I think both characters are perfect for each other.
It took a while for me to warm up with Andrew. At first, I just felt frustrated with him. I felt his hot/cold treatment with Lily was too overdone and there were parts where I just wanted to smack his head. I really felt bad for Lily in this case because she was already half in love with him and he was giving her mixed signals.
Despite that, Shana Galen weaves a tale of mystery and espionage in her stories that have kept me turning the pages.
