For this quick review post, I decided to review the books that I DNF’d last year. Incidentally, I really didn’t have a lot that I DNF’d last year so I promise, my quick reviews aren’t going to be about books that I DNF’d or that I hated. I know some of these are fan favorites, but they just didn’t work for me.
I am listing down 3 reasons why I DNF’d them. Ready? GO!

3 REASONS WHY I DNF’d
I honestly was expecting A LOT with Fire. Since it is a companion for Graceling, which I absolutely LOVED, I came into this book with high hopes, hoping to be blown away. ALAS, it was just not to be.
- Confusing world/fantasy – I get that a lot of fantasy books have super complicated AND confusing worlds but THIS WORLD I DID NOT GET AT ALL! I was confused a few pages in, I was even more confused a few chapters in, and even halfway through the book, I did not get it.
- Unrelatable main character – I did not get Fire at all! What is her power? Just being a monster? WHAT?! I DON’T GET IT!
- Plot – Obvs with the confusing world building, I did not see any plot at all. I did not follow the story, I did not know what was happening! I just felt lost.

3 REASONS WHY I DNF’d
I love Megan Shepherd’s The Madman’s Daughter series and I love sci-fi and weird space things, so it wasn’t a surprise that I picked this book. Well, LO AND BEHOLD, I WAS UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED!
- Weird alien attraction/love-triangle whatever – Obvs, there is a human person love interest here and he has some things to hide and our heroine Cora, is attracted to him. But she is also attracted to this freaking alien and it was just weird. I mean, weird in a sense that I just can’t get the love triangle arc. But maybe there isn’t one and I just overreacted but whatever, there was a hint of a love triangle so…
- Multiple POVs – There are multiple POVs at play here and I don’t mean 2 character POVS BUT MULTIPLE! So it was a little confusing for me to follow.
- Slow pacing – I admit that it started really slow for me. The world building was great and all, but I think the weirdness of the plot really threw me off.

3 REASONS WHY I DNF’d
Hello, Shiver! This book has such positive hype surrounding it that I was expecting a lot when I started reading it. I was disappointed – again. Just like this book that disappointed the shit out of me.
- Weird animal love – OKAY THIS CREEPED ME OUT! I get that we love our pets, heck I say I love you to my cats all the time, but this book… eeep Grace has this weird fixation about her wolf. I mean
I know the wolf is a werewolf and he does become human, but the way Grace fixates her thoughts on the wolf before she finds out that he is human is just WEIRD
AND GROSS.
- Absentee parents – I am sick and tired of absentee parents or parents that don’t care at all. Meeeh.
- Grace – I didn’t relate to her at all. She came off as annoying and-and… well she was one of the characters that I just don’t get.
