Hello! This is my very first Jill Shalvis book and it won’t be my last! Sure, I’ve seen The Trouble with Mistletoe but I haven’t really read her books!
Playing for Keeps ticked all my boxes! There is a dog, a tattoo artist, and a geek! But wait! The tattoo artist is the heroine! Also, there is an enemies to lovers trope!
The plot is simple, Caleb and Sadie rescue a dog one rainy night and they decide to “co-parent” the dog. The dog is named Lollipop, by the way, and it’s the bestest name ever!
I initially liked Sadie, but as the story went on, she kind of rubbed me the wrong way. With her reactions and her immaturity, she came off as very annoying. I mean, if not for Caleb and Lollipop, I wouldn’t have finished this book! I understand that Sadie had a really sad backstory and even if she crushed on Caleb a little bit, she was still unlikeable.
On the other hand, I initially didn’t like Caleb because he felt too aloof for me, but he ultimately turned into an amazing and sweet hero! Also, I love his relationship with his sisters!
Playing for Keeps was a fun read for me and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series!
