Happy New Year, Wormies! To start of the year, I decided to share a few non-bookish bests of 2016! This will be a list of faves from movies, TV shows, music, food, and basically anything I can think of right while writing this post.
Although I didn’t see a lot of new movies this year, I was able to watch a few older films. These are my favorites
Captain America: Civil War – I rewatched this today (as I am writing this) and I still get the shivers, the horror, and the feels. This movie made me think about the parallels in our current political situation right now. And for a superhero movie, it was really well written.
Deadpool – Probably one of the best comedy superhero movies I saw yet! This was also written well and actually had a storyline, which is rare for a DC movie (not a fan of the other DCEU films that came out this year).
Moana – Hello Disney! I enjoyed Moana. Probably not as much as I enjoyed Frozen but it is a very fresh story about a strong female heroine, without any romantic elements! The songs were catchy, too!
When Harry Met Sally – This is a really old movie that I just saw this year! I absolutely ADORE Meg Ryan, but for some reason, this movie flew out of my radar since it came out in 1989 (I was still 5 years old). Even though I had heard awesome things about this movie, I just didn’t watch it. UNTIL THIS YEAR and it is a CLASSIC!
I also picked a few meh movies that I saw this year. Yeah, some of these movies may be an unpopular opinion, but I will explain why I didn’t like them.
Finding Dory – Oh, Disney. I thought I would love this. I mean DORY was my favorite character in Finding Nemo, but this one totally missed the mark for me storywise. The animation was spectacular as always, and Ellen DeGeneres was amazing as Dory, and kudos for Disney for featuring a main character that had disabilities but I wasn’t wowed by the plot. Maybe I was expecting too much?
Batman Vs Superman – I was unimpressed by the plot of this movie. When I saw Captain America: Civil War, that had a pretty similar plot, my initial impression was not changed at all. In fact, it verified my initial thoughts. The plot was just not working for me. I mean, I love Batman and Supes but the plot just fell flat for me.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Another movie that I was REALLY, REALLY ANTICIPATING this year is the Harry Potter prequel of sorts. I wanted more fantastic beasts. Plus, the trailer was a little bit deceiving, too. Anyway, I wasn’t expecting this to be the plot of the movie at all. I thought Newt was coming to America to FIND and CAPTURE beasts. Although the Obscurious revelation was an awesome plot point.
I actually binged watched quite a few TV shows this year. AND I HARDLY BINGE WATCH! Anyway, I saw a few gems this year, and of course, I saw my favorites!
The Walking Dead Season 7 – OMG THAT FIRST EPISODE WAS A KILLER! Full of feels and just heartache all around! This is perhaps the saddest episode of this season. I’m actually thinking of not watching this anymore because
GLEN is gone!! ;(
Humans Season 1 – I just saw this as a suggested show on Amazon Prime and OMG, I got hooked! This season only has 8 episodes and I binged watched it in one sitting. It is unique and riveting and I love it! YAY for #diversity, too since the main character is Asian!
Poldark Season 1 – Early this year, I binged watched season 1 of Poldark and I was hooked! Demelza is one of my favorites and just… POLDARK! Sigh* However, I actually read the synopsis of the book this was based on and… I’m not entirely sure if I would ever watch season 2.
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries – I actually enjoyed watching the series. Although I haven’t finished watching this yet, I absolutely enjoy the series and hopefully, I will be able to finish it this year.
Project Runway (multiple seasons) – When Pierre is at work, I binge watch Project Runway. That’s my background noise and even though I have seen all the episodes, I still love rewatching them. Some of the seasons are on Hulu, so I just watched!
Sword Art Online Season 1 – I love to watch Anime once in a while and in 2015, I saw quite a few. This year, not so much but I binged Sword Art Online in 2 days, it was so addictive! This anime reminds me of the Playstation game Grandia III (which I absolutely LOVE!). This movie also has a very strong heroine and is about a virtual reality massively multiplayer online game and the players get trapped inside the game. The interesting thing is that this series features TWO games! Unfortunately, Season 2 is not English dubbed yet, so I am HOPING that it gets a dub so I can watch it. Unfortunately, I can’t take reading subtitles because I always fall asleep halfway through it.
I mentioned that I watched a lot of TV shows this year and yeah, there were some doozies!
Supergirl – I watched a few episodes (maybe 10) and although it is pretty interesting, the actress playing Kara is super annoying.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments – Oh God, where do I start? All the characters are unlikeable (except for Simon) and Clary is super annoying that I could not stand to watch. This book series is also not my cup of tea.
Lizzie Borden Chronicles – I love creepy shows like this. Unfortunately, this didn’t really catch my attention. I probably watched 3-4 episodes total and it still didn’t intrigue me.
Because I listen to audiobooks 98% of the time while driving to and from work, I hardly listen to music. It’s unfortunate, I know, but I managed to listen to a few throughout the year. Not so much new songs, though. Also, I heart Amazon Music!
- Close to Heaven – Breaking Benjamin
- Dance with the Devil – Breaking Benjamin
- Another Day – Dream Theater
- Bright – Echosmith
- By the Way – Theory of a Deadman
- I Miss the Misery – Halestorm
As you can see, I don’t have any new faves. Haha, and when Pierre and I go on road trips, we mostly listen to Classic Rock.
So, 2016 was a revelation to me because it seemed like I was obsessed with the same food! Like, I would go out of my way to BUY THEM! It’s pretty funny how Pierre and I would go to the same restaurants and order the same thing almost all the time! Obviously, I am a creature of habit.
- Starbucks – White Chocolate Mocha / Creme Brulee Latte
- Drinks: Milk Tea (with boba), Thai Tea
- Food: Ramen / Paneer Korma / Xiao Long Bao / Make your own Pizza (white sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, grilled chicken, Italian sausage, pepperoni, bacon bits, garlic, onions, spinach)
What were your non-bookish faves? Do you agree with my favorites and non-faves?
I haven’t seen any of the others, but When Harry Met Sally is my favorite movie of all time. Too bad that Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher are gone now. 🙁
I know 🙁 I feel super devastated about that… 🙁
Oh I love Deadpool and I’m hoping to see Moana soon! It looks really amazing!
I tired watching Supergirl but it didn’t work out for me either. I’m pretty behind on most of my tv watching, but I still love watching Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

Oh, I still haven’t watched Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! I’ll probably check this out soon…. 🙂
And Moana is fun! Not Frozen amazing, but really fun!
