Betty Dawsey knows that breaking things off with Thom Lange is for the best. He’s nice, but boring, and their relationship has lost its spark. But steady and predictable Thom, suddenly doesn’t seem so steady and predictable when their condo explodes and she’s kidnapped by a couple of crazies claiming that Thom isn’t who he says he is.
Thom is having a hellish week. Not only is he hunting a double agent, but his fiancé dumped him, and thanks to his undercover life, she’s been kidnapped.
Turns out Thom is Operative Thom and he’s got more than a few secrets to share with Betty if he’s going to keep her alive. With both their lives on the line, their lackluster connection is suddenly replaced by an intense one. But in his line of work, feelings aren’t wanted or desired. Because feelings can be a lethal distraction.

Heat Level: undetermined. Did not read far enough
One of my highly anticipated releases this month is Lies by Kylie Scott. I loved the premise and when I started reading it and discovered the names of the main characters Elizabeth and Thom – I was stoked! I mean, I LOVED that the hero is a spy and has been hiding his identity from his fiance and the heroine was planning to leave him because he sucked!
I am a fan of the Blacklist and two of the characters there are Elizabeth and Tom, who didn’t really have an HEA on that show. When I was reading Lies, I immediately had Blacklist vibes and I was rooting for Betty and Thom!
I figured Lies was going to be Elizabeth and Tom from Blacklist with an HEA! Unfortunately, I was soooo disappointed! I had to DNF Lies at around 50% because it was just too damn boring.
For something that was slated to be a romantic suspense, I think this book fell flat. I mean, there were guns and shooting and fighting and even a kidnapping but the main characters ultimately fell flat for me. I immediately hated Thom because
how can he not try to satisfy his fiance in bed?! Heck, he even said that he wanted to BE normal, so he didn’t make her orgasm? WTF is NORMAL in that?! Orgasms ARE normal!
I know that he made up for that in the end, but still! Thom was just a d*ck.
While I liked Betty well enough, her personality didn’t shine through as much. Kudos to her for finally pulling the plug and leaving Thom, but she couldn’t save this book.
Ultimately, the romance fell flat and I was really expecting MORE. More in the romance department, especially because Thom was in disguise.
I absolutely loved Kylie Scott’s Repeat and even gave it 4 stars. Unfortunately, Lies was a no for me.

I enjoyed this one, but do agree that it was a little boring compared to her other books that I loved. I could totally see it as an action/comedy type of movie, maybe starring Jennifer Aniston? Don’t know. Great review!
