Finally, FINALLY – we get the last and final book in the Night Prince novels! Into the Fire was a long time coming since publishing had been pushed back for about a year. So now, at last, we get Vlad and Leila’s happily ever after!
I must say that I had high hopes for Into the Fire. In fact, Once Burned was the first book by Jeaniene Frost that I read! But I still have to say that Cat and Bones are the star couple.
Anyway, back to Vlad and Leila’s romance. Their romance felt a little meh for me and yes, Leila was SUPER frustrating. Oh, and Vlad, too! Basically, both of them grated on my nerves this time and I thought that they shouldn’t even be together! Yes, I was that frustrated with both of them.
But that isn’t saying that the writing was bad. No. In fact, I loved the twist with the villain. And I also loved the secondary characters. In fact, Leila and Vlad were overtaken by Ian! Man, he was more interesting than these two! I am so happy that he will be getting his own series (it’s called The Night Rebel novels, by the way! EEEEEP!).

Also, we do NOT get to meet Cat and Bones and
their daughter! Leila does use their house as a safe house and there were photos of them mentioned in the book and I wanted MOAR!
Then again, I am a Cat and Bones fan, so…
Frost actually lost me in the end when the villain was finally revealed. And the Mircea reveal? Meh, it was too weak for me. The very last battle scene was not as thrilling and not as fulfilling as her other books. And also Mencheres? sigh*
AND I DO HAVE A BEEF WITH THIS ONE BECAUSE MY FAVORITE CHARACTER ACTUALLY DIES!! RANT RANT RANT!
Yes, my favorite character MARTY dies! I mean, after he survived through a lot in the first three books, he DIES a senseless death in this book! I MEAN, I CRIED damn it! This should NOT have happened!! He didn’t even stay on like a freaking ghost! I am still in shock and I am reeling in disbelief!
So basically, the last quarter of the book really did it for me. I wasn’t a fan of it and I wish that didn’t happen because – gaaaah!
I honestly did enjoy the first 3/4 of Into the Fire. The sudden shift in the villain was a surprise but it was a little bit confusing since the build-up of this villain basically started in the previous 3 books.
The writing is typical Jeaniene Frost, full of sass and intensity, especially on the part of Vlad. But I do wish there was more focus on Vlad and Leila’s relationship and not both of them keeping secrets from each other.
The audiobook is SUPERB as always! Narrated by Tavia Gilbert, she really internalizes each character and uses distinct voices for each of them. Not on that, she uses a LOT of different voices and she just sucks me in! This narration really made me enjoy the book better than I normally would.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this one and even though I liked this one quite a bit, my least favorite of the series. I mean so many shocks but what happens to Marty??!!! I was bawling my eyes out so badly. And I wasn’t a huge fan of secrets and even though I love Ian…he kinda stole the show in this book but I am looking forward to see what happens next with him.

I know wha you mean! Now that is what I absolutely hate, when secondary characters steal the show! Also, I think Jeaniene Frost had a hard time wrapping up this series. But I am definitely looking forward to Ian’s story!! Eeek!
