MY THOUGHTS

I’m finally reviewing Heir of Fire, the third book in the Throne of Glass series and it is just as devastating as Crown of Midnight! There are revelations and DEATHS and creatures – monsters! And I’m also talking about HUMAN monsters.
Devastating? AGAIN?
Well, the first half of Heir of Fire started out a little slow for my taste. Mostly because we are now given a few info dumps (that aren’t really info dumps because SJMaas is just BRILLIANT!) about Wendelin and the Fae. We also meet the mysterious Fae Prince Roan.
The Fae?
Since we already know that
Celaena is Aelin Galathynius, thereby making her half fae
, she is trying to get some answers from Maeve. Enter the Roan, the Fae Prince, who trains Celaena to enter Doronel, the realm of the Fae.
So you mean she just can’t go and talk to Maeve?
Evidently, Maeve, the Queen of the Fae resides in Doronel and will only give Celaena the answers she seeks if she will be worthy to enter Doronel. Roan is tasked to train Celaena, and it’s hate at first sight between these two.
Don’t tell me there’s another love triangle/square/hexagon here!
Rest easy, my dear friends. There isn’t! In fact, I love the way Celaena and Roan’s relationship develop. Both are scarred in a way that only they can save each other.
So, prophetic.
Indeed. The bulk of the plot revolves around Celaena’s Fae training and also switches to Dorian and Chaol, in Riftold. I actually love how the story bounces back between the story arcs.
CHAOL! How IS he?
Unfortunately for us, Chaol has finally figured out who Calaena really is. And his loyalties are put to the test. And Prince Dorian? Let’s just say that he and Chaol are still not speaking to each other.
The interesting thing about this is that Chaol has also found himself a new ally (sort of).
Tell! Tell!
I am not going to because that would be major spoilery and I have already given out a lot of spoilery facts in this review. Let’s just say that there is war and Celaena…
The suspense is killing me!
Our dear Celaena has uncovered something BIG. Something that would change everything. And yes, there is war. This time, our kick-ass heroine is more kick-ass than ever! And it’s just the way I wanted her to be. I love how vulnerable and strong Celaena really is and we are also given a glimpse of her mysterious past.
OMGTHEENDING!
I was loving the book just fine until THE ENDING! THE FEELS! OMG! I can’t EVEN! Now this, I am not spoiling but I will say that my jaw just DROPPED for a good thirty minutes! And I still HATE that Pierre hasn’t picked up this series yet! If you’re reading this post Boss, it’s time to start reading Throne of Glass! ASAP SO WE CAN DISCUSS! Or have a one-sided conversation. That’s fine with me!
There’s a coven of witches, I’m told!
There is an interesting story arc about the coven of witches: the Bluebloods, the Blackbeaks, and the Yellowlegs. I still don’t know what arc this will take, or what role they pose, but it has whetted my appetite for more. I don’t know what Manon is, actually. Is she evil or not? Will she be a villain or not? But whatever she will be, she is one interesting character. Her struggles between right and wrong are well done and it has kept me guessing.
And the audio?
The audio is as amazing as ever! It is still read by Elizabeth Evans and she is just amazing! She has a way of using Sarah J. Maas’ words and making it real.
The downside to this audiobook obsession that I have is that I cannot spell the names of the characters right! OR I don’t even know how the names and places are spelled at all. It’s bad, I know but I think I can live with that. So please, if I spelled places and names up top that are wrong, you know why! And I’m too lazy right now to correct it.
Recommendations
If you haven’t already done so, go and BINGE READ the series! This is just one amazing fantastmic fantasy series that I can’t help but devour!

[rating-report]
Gah! I think this installment killed me even more than Crown of Midnight did – and THAT is saying something! Poor Celaena/Aelin was so broken down at the beginning it was hard to see her like that. But then, to have her rebuild herself, with Rowan’s help was PERFECTION. I ADORED how she came into her powers, I adored how EPIC she became (not that she wasn’t already but she became even more so!), I loved the magic, the witches ALL OF IT. And that ending?! EEEEEP! SO INTENSE. I can’t wait to see what you’ll make of Queen of Shadows 😀 Awesome review^^

Thanks! I just finished reading Queen of Shadows and it was CRAZY GOOD! INTENSE and just plain AWESOME! Can’t wait to review it!
Eeep! I am not a huge fan of this series overall, but this book would be my favorite (of the three I’ve read). I’ve not read QoS yet (some part of me wants to wait until all six books are published – ha!). I like Rowan so much! <3
Great review, Zeee! 🙂
