Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.
In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side…and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Heat Level: Steamy
When I borrowed Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost from the library a few weeks ago, I did not have any expectations whatsoever. I did not read any reviews for this book nor did someone recommend it to me. I probably saw this somewhere on my Facebook wall and decided to read it over my birthday week. What I got when I listened to the audiobook version was 100% awesomeness and badassery from our heroine Cat Crawfield, a human-vampire half-breed. This was one of the audiobooks that I just could not STOP listening to! I was hooked!
“You’re not a woman. You’re the grim reaper with red hair.”
– Bones, Halfway to the Grave
Bones. Now, don’t get me started on Bones (if I was still a teen, I probably would call him my book BFF)! He is the perfect hero for Cat! I love how he was on the dominating side but not dominating-scary. The accent – OH EM GEE the accent! Tavia Gilbert really captured Bones’ essence which really made me get into the story. Cat and Bones fairly sizzled every time they met. The sexy times were a little on the spicy side, which was perfect.
The quirkiness and pop-culture references were spot-on and I could not keep from laughing out loud that my hubby had to look at me weirdly. Yes, it was that entertaining! I can’t remember ever being entertained by an audiobook AND story ever!
Frost really wrote a compelling read and a memorable cast of characters in Halfway to the Grave. The book was well paced with a lot of fighting and suspense in between.
Coupled with the ah-may-zing narrator, Tavia Gilbert, Halfway to the Grave is a definite MUST listen!
Thoughts on the Audiobook
Narrator: Tavia Gilbert
Let me tell you that Tavia Gilbert is superb in this reading! Her accents (especially Bones’) really made THE character shine! I even love the sound of her Cat voice (normal)! As I’ve said, I can’t remember ever being entertained by an audiobook ever! I don’t know if my enjoyment of Halfway to the Grave would be as enjoyable if I read it first before listening to it but let me tell you this (ha!), I listened to this audiobook TWICE this month alone! How awesome is it that Gilbert narrated ALL the Night Huntress, Night Huntress World, and Night Prince series!
