It took me a while to finally read my copy of Getaway Girl and I am kicking myself for it! Getaway Girl is full of Tessa Bailey’s signature wit, banter, sexiness, and dirty-talking heroes! In this case, the heroine has the devilish streak.
Addison returns home to Charleston to settle her grandmother’s property and business. Before she leaves, she attends her cousin’s wedding – where her cousin doesn’t show up and she ends up helping the almost groom escape!
Who would have thought that this escape was good for the future mayor of Charleston? Elijah is the son of the current Mayor of Charleston and is also going to be running to be his successor. His marriage to Naomi, Addison’s cousin, was going to be the perfect match of the season. When the bride doesn’t show up at the wedding, he impulsively hitches a ride with the mysterious getaway girl!
I love Getaway Girl so much. It is full of fun; laughter and I especially love that Elijah’s butt has his own Twitter account (@dupontbadonk > I hope this is a real Twitter account!). Each chapter has a tweet from @dupontbadonk and it is just hilarious. Not only that, I felt for Addison because of the scandal attached to her due to her mother’s scandal years ago. Addy grew up with her grandmother but left years ago to live in New York.
I also love how Addison and Elijah’s romance developed slowly. Sure, there was attraction, and the chemistry was obvious from page one, but I love that it wasn’t lust and boinking from page 1.
Addison’s quirkiness was so endearing. She was only going to stay in Charleston to settle her grandmother’s affairs but ended up staying far longer and running her grandmother’s Christmas ornament booth! Not only that, she ended up making the ornaments herself with Elijah helping her glue stuff together!
Addison’s apartment full of Christmas decors was an escape for Elijah. And I love that this gave the couple time to get to know each other and develop their friendship and attraction.
Getaway Girl is a romance about opposites attract and it checked all the boxes for me. Also, the sexytimes were amazing!
Towards the end, I couldn’t help but root for the two and also champion Addison. It was emotional and heartbreaking and I loved how Addison’s character developed throughout the book.
Ultimately, Getaway Girl was a page turner and I read it in a few hours! This is a MUST read!
Also, Tessa Bailey may be writing the cousin’s HEA when she ran to Florida to get away from the wedding!
