Happy Tuesday, Wormies! It pains me to write this post because these are books that I actually hated with characters that I LOVED. I knew that when I saw this topic for Top Ten Tuesday, that I would not miss it!
I enjoyed The Book of Ivy but I was so disappointed with The Revolution of Ivy that I wanted to throw my phone after I finished this audiobook. I LIKED Ivy but the second book sucked so bad because I was expecting a freakin’ revolution, and THERE WAS NO REVOLUTION at all.
I liked The Winner’s Curse and The Winner’s Crime, but I was disappointed with The Winner’s Kiss! I like both characters, Kestrel and Arin but this book felt a little similar to Throne of Glass and I don’t know, it just didn’t blow me away as did the first two books in the series.
Although I gave Empire of Storms 4 stars, I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. First, I felt like it was a filler book, and Aelin wasn’t really in this book. Plus, Manon Blackbeak and Elide Lorcan HAD A THING! I’m not sure why SJ Maas queer baited her readers when Manon and Elide’s sparks were flying in Queen of Shadows!
I enjoyed Starflight so much and was really excited to read Starfall because I wanted more stories from the crew of the Banshee. Cassia and Kane were amazing in the previous book and I was looking forward to their romance but noooo! This Starfall did not meet expectations. Cassia was annoying in this book and Kane was so beta that I ended up DNFing this book!
I enjoyed Lady Bridget’s Diary and loved the scene between Bridget and James and of course, the sparks flying between James and Meredith, but when their own HEA came, I was very disappointed! There was hardly any chemistry between the two and I felt it was wasted in the previous books!
I was sooo looking forward to Into the Fire but I was thoroughly disappointed! Vlad and Leila’s heat/cold relationship was annoying, I was rolling y eyes throughout the book. AND what’s even worst, Marty, one of my favorite character in this series,
DIED! DIED a senseless death, too!
Yeah. it was that disappointment!
The Rule of Scoundrels series is one of my favorites, but No Good Duke Goes Unpunished was a HUGE disappointment! I didn’t like Mara at all! I didn’t understand her motives and I felt that she didn’t do enough for Temple to forgive her! Temple is an awesome character and he did not deserve to be treated this way!
Midnight Target was a disappointment for me because of my favorite characters Cate, Ash, Liam, and Sully. I mean, this book felt too much like fan service and a book sharing two HEAs was too crowded! Liam and Sully should have gotten their own book! If not a full book, a novella would have worked better rather than having them share their book with Cate an Ash!
Have you read any books mentioned in this post? Do you agree with my choices?
Do you have any favorite characters in books that you hated?
I haven’t read any of these books but a few of these are definitely on my TBR.
Today’s topic was definitely hard, that’s why I switched it 😀

This was a bit hard! I had to dig deep into my book list to pick the characters I loved in books I didn’t like!
I am currently reading It’s Hard Out Here for A Duke-Maya Rodale, and I haven’t read Lady Bridget’s Diary, but James is just a bit weak I think as a character also. I am enjoying it but I am not real into it.
James was more interesting in Lady Bridget’s Diary… but this was the only book I enjoyed in the series. I didn’t like the other two…and also this one, unfortunately!
I’m still kind of keeping my fingers crossed for Masterin, although I know it probably won’t happen!

Yeah… SJMaas loves to kill a good couple! 🙁
I love Manon and then when her character went in the direction I wanted her to go, I loved her even more.

Manon is really an awesome character! Such an amazing antihero!
I’m glad that the characters were good, even if the books disappointed you. Nice list! 🙂

Thank you, Anna!
Oooh intersting topic! I totally have to agree with The Winner’s Kiss, still loved Kestral and Arin but the story lacked a little bit of something.
Also, if I remember correctly, I liked Temple too but not a fan of Mara.
Great list, Zeee!

I KNOW!!! Gaaahhhh Mara didn’t do anything to redeem herself at all! I feel bad for Temple!
Mannon was one of my favorite characters in ToG too. I liked the direction Maas took her in and appreciated her growth.

She is an interesting character! More like an anti-heroine! Maas does write awesome heroines!
I didn’t dislike Empire of Storms, but I didn’t love it either, but Manon was definitely a standout character for me! And I really liked Arin and Kestrel in the The Winner’s Curse, but I’ve yet to read the other two books, so I can’t comment on how their story ends! 🙂

I actually thought Empire of Storms was the finale! So… I was really shocked when the series wasn’t over! I’m actually starting to get over the ToG series, you know?
I enjoyed The Winner’s Curse series, but the last book was a little disappointing.
