Bookish updates in the last 2 weeks
Hello from sunny California! As of now, we are currently blazing at over a 100 degrees Fahrenheit! Yep! It started on Friday and when I left my office building, I was blasted by the heat! I also left my house yesterday afternoon and yowza! It was blistering! Gaaaah I AM NEVER LEAVING MY CAVE FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER! Or you know – until winter comes. And yes, there a bunch of brush fires all over SoCal this week! Stay safe everyone, and stay cool!
I haven’t really talked publicly about this but on Wednesday, I shared a selfie on IG Stories! I’m pretty happy about this news because… I lost a bit of weight (it’s a pretty significant amount, too)! While it’s not an amazing feat by any stretch, it’s a BIG DEAL for me. And while I won’t talk much about it, I did have a health scare before the New Year last year. I may talk about this soon, but I’ll keep this to myself and a few besties for now.
On a sad, sad note, we found out that my EVIL KAT, Pixie has a small tumor near her abdominal area. I feel so crushed and sad. The vet said not to operate since she’s a little over 15 years old now. It’s really sad when one of your pets get sick. On a good note, she has the same temperament as she was before the tumor. It’s gotten a little bigger now, which was why I noticed. Plus, she still hates my guts, so no change there!

Some of the books listed were read last month. Also, I did a lot of rereads!

- Shealea @ The Bookshelf Bitch shares her favorite and anticipating Asian fantasy books (I swear these are very exciting! Plus, there are a few Philippine inspired books here!)
- Laura @ Boats Against the Current is celebrating her blogoversary and shares how she picked her blog name (I swear, it’s very unique, unlike mine!)
- My bestie, Shen @ We Three Fiends (where I co-blog) wrote a review for The Girl Between Two Worlds by K.M. Levis (People!! It’s about engkantadas – or Philippine folklore referring to spirits or enchantress, sounds really interesting! This is also a #ownvoices book!)
- Charlie @ Girl of a 1000 Wonders talks about her struggles about returning to reading (I admit to being a mood reader and I have had days or weeks when I didn’t want to read at all!)
- Fay @ Bibliophile Soprano talks about her undergrad thesis on #romanceclass (I seriously need to read #romanceclass books! And now that I am getting into contemporary romance, I think now is the time to do so!)
- Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction shares her top 10 writing tips that she learned at the WIFYR conference (awesome tips here, by the way. Maybe I can start writing my own, eh?)
How did your last two weeks go? Is it crazy hot where you’re at right now?
Also, are you celebrating any small or big achievements in your life? I want to know, no matter how insignificant you think it is!

Wow that’s hot. I hope you get a cooldown soon (and all those poor people dealing with brushfires- hope they get some relief too). Summer’s getting to be a pain with all these horrible temps lol!
Sorry to hear about Pixie!
Hope your reads are good this week.

Thank you, Greg. Yeah summer is killing me!
Hooray for you and your weight loss! Getting healthy is always a good thing. I am sorry about your cat. I know it must be really difficult for you. *crying* I was so surprised by how much I liked the Point books. I am not usually into crime romance type stories, but if anyone could sell it to me, it would be Crownover. I had read honor, but need to resume the companion series. I just lent The Deal to one of my co-workers and got another one addicted to the series. I cannot wait to get my hands on The Chase!!!
Oh man, Jay Crownover’s books are amazing! I actually binged almost all of her books this month! I am starting to read the spin-off to The Point – The Breaking Point because I can’t wait for Karsen and Booker’s HEA!
Also, glad you were able t get someone else hooked on Elle Kennedy! Have you tried her romantic suspense series? It’s called the Killer Instincts series and the amazing heroines are super kick-ass! My favorite is book 5 🙂 I also can’t wait for The Chase!!!!! OMG!!!!
Oh, and The Deal was a reread for me…. 🙂 I will reread The Mistake again!
Good job on the weight loss! I’ve been trying for a while, but got pregnant so that went out the door. But soon I can work on it!
Sorry about your cat. It’s always sad to see a sick pet. ?
Oh! Congrats on your pregnancy! You can also go back after the baby is out! 🙂
Well done on your weight loss, I have also lost weight and no matter how much it is, it is an achievement!
I’m sorry about Pixie! It’s always hard when a pet is sick 🙁

Thank you, Suzanne! It’s really hard to lose weight! Also hard when you have a sick pet 🙁
Oh congrats on the weight loss!! That is just awesome! Sorry to hear about your cat, but that picture of her plotting world domination….its just too cute!! And she really does look like she is plotting to kill. Hopefully you will still get lots of time with her!
Enjoy your new books-you got some GREAT ones!

Yup, Pixie is my Evil Kat… I just use a K because she really is evil… she hates me too! She is a pixie bobcat and she is tiny! But hisses at me a lot… LOL
Congrats on the weight loss! I’m currently on that journey and it’s hard work but so worth it when you start noticing the difference. 🙂
Sorry about your cat. I lost two of mine to cancer last year and it’s devastating. Although my people hating devil cat is still very much with us, lol… It was my sweet natured girls I lost.
You finished Built!! I LOVED that book. In fact, I loved all of Jay Crownovers Marked Men and The Saints of Denver series…
Have a great week!
Oh, I’m sorry about your cats! I find that the evil cats are actually pretty nice to hang out with… I still have my other cat who is a total opposite and loves to cuddle all the time.
Also, I read Built TWICE last month! I LOVE Jay Crownover, too! My faves are Rule and Recovered!
YAY on weight loss!
Lots of amazing books! There are a bunch that I want to read! Congrats on the weight loss. It is something I struggle with everyday!
Mary my #SundayRoundup #26!
Thank you, Mary!
The heat is awful. I can’t leave the house without it making me feel gross. I love the selfie! You look so happy. Sorry about the cat, though. Hopefully it’s not a bad, fast-growing tumor. Have a good week.
Aj @ Read All The Things! recently posted…The Sunday Post #154
Thanks, Aj! It doesn’t seem like it’s fast. And she is her same evil self. So hopefully it’s nothing really serious! 🙁
Congrats on the weight loss!! Pixie definitely looks like she’s plotting world domination, I’m almost positive my youngest would pledge allegiance to her. I’m also sorry Pixie has a tumor. I haven’t had a pet since my dog ran away, I’m too scared to get attached. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Oh, I’m soooo sorry about your dog! We lost our 3 dogs to old age a while back… It’s really sad to lose a pet. She does look like she is about to rule the world! LOL
The news about your cat is awful! I am so sorry.
But thank you so much for including my post here! I really, really appreciate it. I hope the list was somewhat helpful to you.
Happy reading!
You’re welcome! I actually love your post and I clicked because of the pun! 🙂
Aww, I’m so sorry to hear your cat is sick! Poor thing 🙁
And wow, I had thought it was hot here in the UK, but it’s definitely no where near that level! Although to be fair, we generally just think it’s a heatwave here when it stops raining! 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing my post by the way 🙂
