If you thought you learned more about the dangerous and sexy alpha vampire, Bones, in The Other Half of the Grave, you haven’t seen anything yet…
This is Bones, in his own words…
Two hundred years of bounty hunting made Bones the best at what he does, yet it’s still taken him four long years to find Cat, the half vampire now known as the “Red Reaper.” There’s a price on Cat’s head, and not even her job as a secret government agent can save her. Only Bones can. But has time hardened Bones too much to love again? Or will his passion for Cat burn through every obstacle—alive, undead, or otherwise—between them?

When I started this audiobook, I didn’t really think about how this book would start. Of course, I’ve reread One Foot in the Grave multiple times so nothing in the plot is a surprise to me. However, I was extremely surprised and delighted that we get a few chapters of Bones looking for and pining for Cat! We get to see the events play out that was only hinted at in One Foot in the Grave. I wanted to protect Bones with all my heart! even though I knew he and Cat would meet up at a later date.
Both Feet in the Grave also give us more time with our favorite secondary characters! We read more about Rodney, the ghoul, and Randy, Denise’s fiance! We even get a scene when he and Bones first met, and Bones’ reaction when he smells Cat on Randy!
I absolutely love this book. It did help that I was reading The Other Half of the Grave and the dramatized audio of Halfway to the Grave prior to listening to this audiobook. I also listened to One Foot in the Grave right after listening to this audiobook so it added more to my enjoyment.
Thoughts on the Audiobook
Will Watt comes back and reads this book since it is in Bones’ POV. Watt is perfect as Bones! He doesn’t use a Cockney accent, though but he does use a standard British English accent, which I also love.
Watt’s pacing is perfect. As a caveat, I sped up my audio to 1.25x and his voice still sounds amazing in that speed.
Recommendations
Overall, I highly recommend this book, most especially if you are a fan of the Night Huntress world. I recommend listening to book 2 right after listening to this because it just makes it more of an immersive experience, especially if you haven’t reread One Foot in the Grave in a while. Both Feet in the Grave is a 6/6 read for me!
