Happy Tuesday, Wormies! As you know, I love to read historical romance and most of these are set in Europe! Because of that, I would be listing a ton of books this Tuesday… and I don’t have the energy to do that. So, I decided to share books set in SPACE!
So, sit back and relax, and prepare to take a trip into the cosmos!
YA Books Set in SPACE
Across the Universe is set in the spaceship Godspeed. This is also the first sci-fi YA book that I read that I thought had a good premise!
These Broken Stars is THE book that got me back to reading YA! This awesomeness is like Titanic in space, only both hero and heroine survive! AND there is Lilac and Tarver! And TARVER! Tarver and Lilac try to survive on a weird and crazy planet too. And there is romance!
Winter is another book that is NOT set on Earth, but on Luna! This fast-paced 4th and final book is one of my favorite books in The Lunar Chronicles! We meet all of our favorite characters and Thorne! Also, evil queens and fighting and Ze-ev!
Defy the Stars mostly takes place off-world with the last few chapters set on Earth. This was one of my favorite reads from last year and I love androids! Yes, more AI’s, please!
Illuminae has a special place in my heart because of Ezra (ahem)! No, I’m kidding! This book is just AMAZING! I love the format and the plot blew me away! This book is set in onboard the ship Hypatia and uhmmm for the life of me, I can’t remember the other ship! Was it the Magellan? Ugh! Anyway… such an awesome, awesome book AND series!
Unearthed is another book set on a different planet! And although it reminded me soooo much of Indiana Jones, that shocker and cliffhanger in the last chapter were AWESOME! So, despite the book being a little slow, that ending sold me!
Our Dark Stars is also set in space! This is set in another galaxy, on multiple planets and features Mocks – that is, highly intelligent robots! My review will be up later this week, too!
Starflight is another book that I listened to featuring my favorite characters, Solara and Dorian! Also, the crew of the Banshee is so awesome! This book is set mostly on a spaceship with a few stops on a couple of planets.
Stitching Snow surprised me in a good way. While it didn’t blow me away, this book is also set on a different planet. It is also a retelling of Snow White where Snow White is a mechanic and hacker. I know it’s a little bit like The Lunar Chronicles but it was different enough for me to enjoy.
A Wrinkle in Time on this list because this book changed my life! I read this when I was in third grade and I can still remember the wonders of reading it! For the most part, this book is set in another planet or time or dimension so I still count it as SPACE. If you haven’t read it yet, GO and READ it!
Isn’t it obvious that I absolutely love sci-fi? Can you recommend other YA sci-fi books set in space? I think I am going to start binge reading this genre soon!
Have you read Gemina? I thought it was even better than Illuminae. I delayed reading Gemina because how could a companion book/sequel be as good as the first? These authors SHOWED me how.
I still haven’t finished Gemina yet because… I don’t know! LOL but I have all 3 books now and I can’t wait to dive back in and finish the series! I also tried to feature one book per series 🙂
Oh my gosh! I love this list! Ah! <3

Thank you, Joann! I wanted a different spin to this topic 🙂
Yes! I love books set in space!! Starflight was fun and I want to be on the crew of the Banshee. Illuminae’s an a7 wesome choice too, although I want to hang out with Nik/ Hanna and Ella from Gemina. They’d be a blast!

I am biased because of Ezra! LOL but Starflight was awesome! I actually want to read more about the crew. The second book in that series disappointed me so much I had to DNF it.
I love your take on this weeks topic. Great picks!

Thank you, Bogdana!
This is a great list and so many I need to read. I loved the Lunar Chronicles series. I also loved Melissa Landers and Claudia Gray’s other books so I need to catch up on their books.
Man, Claudia Gray is an awesome writer! I still have to read her Star Wars Princess Leia books. According to Star Wars fans, she has legit awesome books that are amazingly fun and very Star Wars-y!
I am interested in reading Melissa Lander’s Alienated… but I still don’t have time to read it… LOL
The Illuminae Files and The Starbound series are two of my favorites. I loved them so much!

The Starbound series made me fall in love the YA genre again! So definitely thankful for that! 🙂
I’m definitely going to have to check out some of these! I got really into space books a while ago when I read a couple of really good ones, but then couldn’t really find any others that interested me. I definitely like the look of some of these though, especially These Broken Stars! 🙂
Great post!

These Broken Stars started my love for YA again! LOL I think I have reread it multiple times, too! Let me know which book you tried and what you think of it.
