Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m really excited to share the books I love that were published over ten years ago. I really picked the titles to showcase the variety of books I read and tried not to pick the same author twice.
I have been reading since I was little so there were a lot of books to choose from. Anyway, here goes!

first published November 25, 1864
I read this book when I was still in elementary school and it was an illustrated version. I fell in love with it and read the other two famous books by Jules Verne: Around the World in 80 Days and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Journey to the Center of the Earth was the first book that I read and it is also one of my favorites.

first published 1905
I also read A Little Princess in elementary and I also saw the movie and animated versions of this book. I also read The Secret Garden after this book, but A Little Princess is my favorite and was probably the first book that brought me to tears.

first published 1930
Nancy Drew was the first series that I read when I was also in elementary school. I remember begging my mom to get me the series and I have the first twelve books. I also have a few copies of the Hardy Boys series. But Nancy Drew and the Secret of the Old Clock was the first one that I read and I enjoyed it. To be honest, I probably won’t read the books again, but I still remember them with fondly.

I found A Battle for Love at a used bookstore in my hometown and I was taken to another world by this book. It has scandal, romance and deceit and an Englishman pretending to be a painter… ahhh LOVE! Selhurst and Micheline are one of my favorite couples! This is probably one of the books that got me hooked on historical romance.

Although I read this book a couple of years ago, it was published when I was 2! I can’t believe that I missed this book. Howl’s Moving Castle is an awesome read, and the animated Studio Ghibli adaptation is also amazing.

first published 1990
Jurassic Park is the first book by Michael Crichton that I read and it wasn’t my last! I enjoyed the sequel The Lost World, Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Congo, Timeline and A Case of Need. I also enjoyed the movie versions of his books. I read Jurassic Park when I was in 6th grade after I saw the movie. This was also the time when I was the “snooty” reader and read a lot of this type of adult books.

first published January 1, 1992
Lions and Lace was the first book that I read set during the Gilded Age in New York (around the early 1900s) and I have been fascinated since! This also features one of my favorite historical tropes – marriage of convenience and marriage between classes.

first published January 1994
Dreaming of You is perhaps one of the very first Lisa Kleypas books that I read and I was hooked! This book features an authoress who saves Derek Craven, owner of a gambling club when he was attacked one night.

first published May 7, 1997
His Forbidden Touch is one of the first medieval-ish fiction historical romance that I read that I absolutely love! This takes place in a fictional kingdom where an ex-knight escorts a princess to her evil betrothed. Plus, there is a puppy named Hera! And one of my favorite quotes: “You and no other, the heart conquers all.“

An of course, how could I NOT mention one of my favorite series, Harry Potter? I borrowed this book from my friend a few years after this was published and I was AMAZED! Ron is my favorite character, actually.
Have you read any of the books mentioned above?
If you haven’t which books do you want to read?

I recently reviewed Lions and Lace… It’s one of my favorites! I also can’t believe that Harry Potter is about 20 years old! hahaha
You really went back for some of these. I read A Little Princess and the Nancy Drew books as a child (in the 70s), but I remember them fondly. I have been wanting to check Kleypas out and I even have one of her books, because she is pretty big in romance. I need to read it one of these days.

Lisa Kleypas is an amazing writer! I really enjoy majority of her books 🙂
Oooo, nearly all of these are new to me! Then again, ten years ago, I was 12. 😀 I think I have that Kleypas book! Another fellow blogger keeps recommending to me Klepas’s Wallflower books and others so I have been stockpiling Kleypas books. LOL. Someday I will actually read them!
Great post, Zeee! Have a lovely weekend. =)
