MY THOUGHTS
Warning: This review may contain spoilers
An Introduction to Pleasure is the first book in Jess Michaels’ Mistress Matchmaker series. I had read this when it first came out on ebook but then decided to read it again via audiobook. Again, I was blown away! There is something about the mistress in training trope that I absolutely love. Of course, this is an erotic romance so that does help!
Masterfully written, An Introduction to Pleasure tells the story of Lysandra Keates, a desperate woman trying to support her ill mother when she gets turned out from her last post. Out of options, she asks for help from the courtesan Vivien Manning. With the help of Vivien, Lysandra meets Viscount Andrew Callis and is trained in the art of seduction.
I absolutely love Lysandra’s innocence and strength. Andrew, on the other hand, is the tortured hero, becoming a shadow of his former self after his wife and infant son died. He had blamed himself for their deaths and in doing so, kept himself away from society, only venturing out to do business. Lysandra changed everything. I loved that Andrew started to fall for Lysandra slowly throughout the book. Despite the multiple erotic scenes, the characters were well developed and were relatable.
My favorite line would be the line that Andrew said to Lysandra when he shared his darkest secrets.
“I loved her,” he found himself admitting, perhaps for the first time to anyone but Rebecca herself. “I changed for her. When she died… I didn’t know what kind of man to be.”
I loved that despite his hurt, Andrew still became someone worth loving. In the end, I found myself rooting for Lysandra and Andrew.
I definitely recommend An Introduction to Pleasure, especially in audiobook format!
THE AUDIOBOOK
Narrated by Carmen Rose, An Introduction to Pleasure took on a whole new meaning for me. I loved listening to her narration. In fact, I have listened to a few audiobooks narrated by Rose and I loved it! The accents and the different voices that she used are well done. I will definitely be looking at audiobooks read by Ms. Rose.
I really need to pick more of hers up. I enjoyed my first of hers not too long ago. Yay for the second time around being just as awesome 🙂
My recent post Blogger to Author (1)–That first meet!
Yes! I love her erotic romances because they aren't just about sex!
