Happy Tuesday, Wormies! Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday post and hopefully a post that can bring me back from my blogging (and reading) slump! Believe me, I am getting a little overwhelmed by being involved in two different blogs. However, this is not going to end anytime soon because I am having fun blogging with my fellow fiends!
Now back to this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post! So, there are a few books that surprised me over the years. I have to admit that I am one reader that tends to stick to styles and authors that I have read before and not always step away from my norm. But for the times that I do, wow these books blew me away, which really surprised me!
These Broken Stars was the very first book that brought me back to reading Young Adult fiction. This book really was a revelation and ticked off the sci-fi, adventure, and romance boxes that I absolutely love!
It took me a while to get used to fairy tale retellings and I initially didn’t like Cinder (my first review wasn’t really favorable) but OMG! The second time I reread this book was different and made me WANT to live in this world! I love all the characters and basically, Cress is my spirit animal and Thorne is my guy and OMG!
Illuminae is the very first book that I read with a unique format and I thought it was going to be okay. What I didn’t expect was it to be AMAZING! I mean, sure I’m biased because the hero in the book is named Ezra… LOL But this book felt like I was in space and it reminded me of alien!
Throne of Glass is another book that was such a surprise to me! Kick-ass female assassin? Romance? Check and check! And also CHAOL! This book and the series actually gets better and better in future books! I love the sassy heroine and the other unique characters! It is YA fantasy at it’s finest!
Wait for You kick-started last years’ New Adult kick and OMG! This gem is one emotional book and it blew me away. I’m not a fan of angst but Wait for You had just enough angstiness and love and EVERYTHING I LOVE!
Halfway to the Grave changed my life FOREVER! This is my favorite vampire book and series ever! There are no sparkling vampires here, people! And also, BONES IS MY LIFE! Kat is also one heck of a vampire huntress! As someone who was not expecting anything with Halfway to the Grave, I became an obsessed fan! Yup!
I was a bit hesitant to read All Chained Up by Sophie Jordan because I didn’t know how one could make an ex-convict be an amazing hero, right? I am so thankful that I gave All Chained Up a chance because WOW! Just WOW! I was torn, in a good way. I was broken emotionally and I related to this book so much, it’s not even funny.
Have you read Sweet Filthy Boy yet? You should because this trope is not one of my favorites but wow did it tick all of my favorite boxes! This book was mostly set in Paris and I felt like I was IN Paris!
I was blown away by Evernight and I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did! This is Victorian Steampunk and whoever invented this genre should be given an award! I love the blend of historical and steampunk and amazing characters, too! Also, magic and paranormal? Sign me up!
I had to include Angels and Demons because as long as this book is, I actually finished it IN ONE NIGHT! I did not sleep at all and I was at the edge of my seat! I don’t care about the controversy surrounding this book because it was written so damn well!
Have you read any books on my list?
Which ones did you like or not enjoy?
I wasn`t sure whether to pick up The Lunar Chronicles or not, but so many people love it. Although Sci-fi is not my thing, I adore retellings. So I`ll probably marathon the series in Summer.

I have read Angels and Demons, enjoyed that one. I still want to read Jeaniene Frost!!
I skipped this topic because I couldn’t think of anything to post lol. But I have to agree with you about fairy tale retellings. There are so many books and they look so similar, but I loved The Lunar Chronicles. I love all her books. I also enjoyed Throne of Glass and need to read more in the series.

I would consider ToG, The Illuminae Files, and the Starbound series to be surprises for me too. I really don’t read much SFF, so they were out of my comfort zone, but they were all amazing and special in their own way.
